What is Coaching?

Let’s just say some of these things apply to you…

You are looking for more clarity and meaning in your life.

You want to better articulate and execute your goals or vision.

You have so many ideas, you just don’t know where to start.

You feel resistance and you want to bring relief and forward movement.

You are tired of hiding behind fear/shame/doubt/the past.

You no longer want to get in the way of yourself.

You just want to talk things out and have a safe place to do so.

Having support, encouragement and a bit of cheer will help you move forward.

Now, let’s say you have the ability to make change in your life.

(And you actually believe it)

That believing it part? That’s where I come in.

Because when you actually believe you can make change, change can happen. It sounds obvious, I know, but it’s worth the reminder! You are a capable and strong human being who has a beautiful story and has been through some stuff, but you know change is possible.

I see you and believe in you because I am just like you. Navigating through life, getting stuck, pivoting, slowing down, exploring, opening up, hesitating (repeat). It’s what we do and along the way, we often face resistance and fear and hurt.

And that’s when having someone to create space just for you, can be a critical tool in helping you feel empowered and in control again. It’s not about doing everything right. It’s about doing your best, utilizing integrity and being open.

So How Does It Work?

The coaching process can look a bit different for everyone, but here is how I set things up:

  • Coaching sessions are held over the phone and last 60 minutes.

  • I offer a free initial information call before we begin to work together, which allows us to get to know each other a bit and answer any questions before our first official session.

  • I then send over a few things for you to review and fill out: a coaching contract and a few questions (nothing lengthy, I promise)!

  • From there, you’ll schedule a time that works best for you and we’ll be ready to rock for our first official session together!

It’s important to note that within our sessions you, as the client, are in choice of what you want to explore each time we meet. I am here to listen with intent and hold space for you. I will ask questions to help you articulate how you are feeling and help you through the process. I provide guidance and accountability as well as emotional support whenever needed. Together, we’ll move forward in a healthy, encouraging way.

What is your coaching style?

I use a holistic approach to coaching. This means that I recognize that the things we identify as problems or challenges in our life are just one piece of the puzzle. Coaching and “fixing” only external issues won’t allow us to get to the root of what’s going on. But when we take a look inward and examine ourselves as a whole person, we can begin to identify the ‘why’ behind the things that are happening in our lives. And from there, we can lay a foundation for shifting, growth and forward movement.

Coaching is NOT…

Coaching is not therapy.*
Coaching is not a place for me to tell you what to do or how to live your life.
Coaching is not about promising you happy unicorns, rainbows and sparkles - sorry!
Coaching is not a one-sided process.

Coaching is not a quick fix for your problems.

*Therapy vs. Coaching - whats the difference?

Therapy, also called counseling or psychotherapy, is a long-term process in which a client works with a licensed healthcare professional to diagnose and resolve problematic beliefs, behaviors, relationship issues, feelings and sometimes physical responses. In therapy, the therapist is in control and leads the patient. Therapy can focus on past traumas and issues in order to change self-destructive habits, repair and improve relationships and work through painful feelings. Therapists are licensed and regulated by the states.

Coaching is a co-create relationship between coach and client, where the client is in control. Coaches help to clarify goals and identify obstacles and problematic behaviors in order to create action plans to achieve desired results. A life coach helps the client to see the big picture as well as identify patterns, so they can be in control of their life and take action to steer it toward their goals. Coaches are not required to be certified or licensed in anyway.
