My Favorite Drawing Supplies
Here is a list of my (current) favorite drawing pens and paper that I've been using for my line-drawings. I am always testing new supplies and changing things up, so these items are just the ones I've felt comfortable using up to this point. I'd love to hear about some of your favorites, just leave a comment below!
Bristol Paper
This is the only paper that I've really ever used for my line-drawings. I've tried a few others, but I keep coming back to this. It comes in several different weights and is acid free. I use the 300 series, 100 lb paper and I hand-cut the paper when I do smaller drawings.
Uni Pin Pens
My husband got me these for Christmas and I loved them from the start! They provide saturated, yet controlled pigment and are comfortable to use. The tips have plenty of strength as they've held up through multiple drawings. Ink is water and fade proof.
BIC Mechanical Pencils
I don't use these for my everyday line-drawings. But I will pull them out when I am working on a commission piece that requires drawing a specific object or pattern. I've had these for years (hence the paint all over them) and love them because they draw very lightly and precisely.
Micron Pens
These bad boys are great for drawing precise lines and curves. They use archival ink and come in a variety of tip sizes. My one complaint is that I tend to push pretty hard when I draw and some of the thinner tips can soften and split after a few uses.
Sharpies
I really only use these when I am creating larger pieces or with my coloring pages when I want a very distinct, thick line. One downside is, depending on the paper you are using, the ink can bleed a bit and also leave a few tiny splatter marks.
Pentel Clic Eraser
Again, I don't use pencils very often, but when I do, this eraser is fantastic. It allows you to erase without much pressure, so you don't leave any worn marks on the paper. And it also removes pencil markings like a charm. I also like that the tip is retractable and it remains clean use after use.
