Go a little beyond

I just spent the last hour looking back through my 2015 photos.  Tony and I have created many memories this last year. California has been good to us and I am thankful that we've been able to experience Northern California as well as Southern. We've been through a lot of changes, but with that, brings new adventures, people and places...which we gladly welcomed.

Now that I've had a chance to catch my breath after the holidays, I decided it's time to get back on track with my exercise routine. I've been avoiding running for a really long time because I've found that walking and hiking is, well, a lot easier! After years of playing basketball, running a marathon and always being an athlete...it feels really good not to be pushed so hard physically. However, today was the day that I thought...if I just run for 5 minutes, that's progress and it's totally achievable. So I did and boy did it feel good! Next time, I'll go for 7 minutes, then 10 and so on.  Just adding a few short running sessions 2-3 times a week, in addition to my walking is something that will do me a lot of good.

So, that got me thinking about the idea of pushing ourselves, just a little, to go a little beyond our comfort zone. Because it is there where we stretch, we discover, and we move ahead. And it doesn't have to be a huge leap, it can be a little step into a new direction. Trying something new, saying yes to opportunities that come along and reaching a little further than we did before.

If each year we continue to do this, think about what the next 3-5 years could look like! How far we could go! And I believe that the more we push ourselves to keep expanding, the easier it gets, the more connections we will make and the better we will feel.  However, in most cases, to go a little beyond involves planning, making commitments, trusting ourselves, trusting others, staying accountable and saying yes more often.  So we must welcome these necessary steps, take some risks, focus and make it happen.

But remember, never forget to stay true to you; to understand your intention ahead of time and know what is right for you. So whatever your New Years resolution is, know that you are so capable of going beyond where you are now, you just have to make it happen.

Much good is going to come this year...I promise!!
